Overview
A mixed-use block on the Regent's Canal combining ninety apartments, two floors of flexible workspace and six canal-side retail units. It creates 1.2 acres of public realm on what had been a service yard, and opens a towpath route that had been closed to the public since the 1960s.

Reused construction materials
Community & Innovation
Sixty per cent of the construction materials by weight were reused or recycled, most of them from the demolition of the yard's own sheds. The brick from those sheds forms the whole of the canal-side elevation, which is why the new building weathers at the same rate as its neighbours.
Conclusion
The Slateon Urban treats a canal as a front door rather than a back boundary. Ninety homes, a working floor and a reopened towpath share one block, and the part the public gets is the part with the water.
