Homes at social rent
Community & Innovation
The courtyards are the drainage strategy as well as the public realm: each one is a shallow basin planted to take a one-in-a-hundred-year storm, which removed the need for a separate attenuation tank and released an acre for allotments.
Conclusion
Slateon Village is a demonstration that tenure-blind development costs nothing extra when it is designed in from the first sketch. Nobody walking through can tell which forty homes are which, and that was the whole brief.
Community & drainage
  • 160 homes around four shared courtyards
  • 40 homes at social rent, tenure-blind
  • Courtyards double as storm attenuation
  • 1.1 acres released for allotments
